Symptoms

Endocarditis symptoms may develop slowly or suddenly. How fast it develops depends on the type of infection and associated risk factors. Common symptoms are fever, chills, weakness and aching joints/muscles. Other symptoms may include: new heart murmur; night sweats; shortness of breath; paleness; persistent cough; swelling in feet, legs, or abdomen; unexplained weight loss; blood in urine; tenderness in spleen; Osler’s nodes (red, painful nodes in the pads of fingers and toes); and Janeway lesions (red painless skin spots on the palms and soles).
