Michael Bromberg, MD, PhD, Chief of the Section of Hematology at Temple University Hospital, provided perspective for a HealthCentral article on IVIG, or intravenous immunoglobulin, for the treatment of ITP (immune thrombocytopenic purpura). ITP is an autoimmune disease that leads to low levels of platelets in your blood, which are cells that help with blood clotting.
